I have been working in many media to represent my feelings. My feeling is represented in my works and my feelings stem from my social and political atmosphere. We are constantly confronted with two contradictory powers in our pursuit for happiness and achievement. The two are characterised by dark and light, truth and false, God and Devil, yes and no, exploiter and exploited. In my sculptures the exploiters are bulky and look like beasts and the exploited are like the heavy workers. First I make them with clay and then cast in cement. I think men cannot stand up without their base. I presented them with black colour to signify the darkness of the world.
I am presently working on a series called "Time in a Limbo", a limbo created by man himself. It portrays a time characterised by stagnant intellect, stagnant thought and stagnant sensibility. It is a limbo where initiative is lost, and men are like marionettes. I started work on this series towards the end of 1993. I am trying to work on the theme in various media - painting, wood print, sculpture, water colour etc.
I have taken to environmental sculpture reflecting man's bonds with nature. I use natural elements like wood, cloth, pigments etc, from the environment that I work in to do the sculptures. In nature, I try to discover the links between visual nature and the nature of man's imagination. I try to visualise the fusion of the two and bring the feel of this nature into the confines of the four walls.
